Developed through casting, excavation, and architectural listening, the works draw connections between artist-led spaces, changing land use, and traces of urban transformation. The installation includes casts of S1 Artspace’s new premises in a former bank building, a rammed-earth work made from material excavated during the Castlegate archaeological works, and a live sound installation that amplifies vibrations travelling through GLOAM’s structure. On Lost Ground explores how buildings accumulate histories and how ground retains traces of the past while carrying shifting values and potential. The exhibition is accomplished by a participatory workshop:&nbsp;When: Saturday, September 26, 10:30am – 12pm Where: GLOAM, 160 Arundel Street, Sheffield, S14RE&nbsp; For this workshop, Thompson will support participants produce a series of new artifacts in clay. It will be an opportunity to share knowledge of GLOAM and nearby sites. We’ll take sections of clay and make clay press moulds from architectural fragments around the area. The idea is to come together and share memories – maybe of GLOAM, maybe of other art spaces, maybe industrial histories. It’s about sharing while making, building a multi perspective sense of place. Across both sites, the exhibition will consider how objects and surfaces carry layered histories, revealing the residues of industrial processes, environmental change, and human activity, and examining how materials are continually shaped, transformed, and reinterpreted. Relay [1] will open at GLOAM, Sheffield on 14 November 2025 and will feature artists based in the North East of England, Tony Charles, Rachel Deakin, Nick Kennedy and Will Hughes. Relay [2] featuring Thomas Griffiths, Charlotte Dawson, Simona Brinkmann, and James Clarkson will open at Platform A, Middlesbrough in spring 2026. Charles investigates industrial surfaces, transforming steel and aluminium through grinding and painting to reveal traces of labour and aesthetic reflection. Kennedy’s graphite wall drawings explore control and freedom, juxtaposing hard-edged constructivist forms with the soft, metallic properties of the drawing material. Deakin captures residues of landscape and human intervention in paired photographic works, highlighting post-industrial legacies and environmental fragility. Hughes elevates everyday objects through casting, layering, and bejewelling, creating luminous works that trace personal and cultural narratives through humble, overlooked materials. Hardcopy* is a publisher of artist editions and multiples, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Hardcopy* an open space for research, dialogue and experimentation that supports artists to realise ambitious new work. It is an artist-led platform, which takes a critical, collaborative approach that places emphasis on artist development. Hardcopy* collaboratively produces accessible and collectible limited edition artworks that explore digital cultures and digital modes of production. All sales support the artists directly and support future publishing. At its centre is Rana, a Palestinian woman in Britain, whose journeys - from collecting seawater for her aunt in the West Bank, to swimming in reservoirs in the UK - reveal connections between family history, exile, freedom of movement, and people's individual processes of moving toward liberation. A series of short audio stories, each carrying fragments of displacement, survival, and solidarity, can be listened to alongside live dance and video fragments in the gallery space. Please note: Stories contain themes of violence, displacement and loss. No explicit images of violence or destruction are used in the piece. Duration is approx. 60 minutes. This will be a closed door event, so please arrive at least 5 minutes before the performance slot. It will mainly be standing room for the audience - there will be limited sitting so please get in touch if you have any access needs, please note that unfortunately the gallery does not have disabled access. Opening Friday June 27 6–9pm Exhibition continues: June 28–July 20 Open Saturday &amp; Sunday 12–4, or by appointment 'Play Grounds' explores the intersections of skateboarding and space, architecture and play, within contemporary art. Descamps' photographs, whilst devoid of human presence, capture the interaction between skateboarders and city architecture by documenting the marks, and scars on the civic skin of our urban landscapes, whilst his posters memorialise his own sculptural interventions within the city. Designed to be skated, Descamps' sculptures are often fleeting interjections on the urban topography, ephemeral interventions existing afterwards only through retrospective posters. West also explores the gestural traces of skateboarding in her video work, 'Skate the Sky Film, in which skateboarders became painters in the Turbine Hall, using their wheels to paint with ink, melon juice and Ho-Ho's directly onto the film which had recorded the LA sk. Just as Yves Klein defied gravity by "leaping into the void", West's video inverts natural physics by having skateboarders skating on the sky - catching air. Finally, Abulhawa guides us, with her audio work, to re-navigate spaces; skateparks, skate spots. She invites us to consider how we use these spaces physically and socially, and how we can make them more inclusive. The work can be taken out into the city and listened to directly in the urban landscape, where the listener then becomes a performer of the city, following the narration and instructions for movement, to explore and reimagine the site.
